Serums,toners,moisturisers,vitamin c ,retinol and much more…..

These terms are part of of our daily jargon. The internet is smeared everywhere by this niche. Celebrities ,YouTubers and our class mates likewise seem to have become skin care guru all of a sudden. The phenomenon of skin care is like a raging fire.

While I am not disagreeing to the science behind the essence of skin care, I also don’t necessarily buy into the hype it has caused. From brands of skin care products to the extensive AM -PM regime , everything seems taxing both mental and financially.

A basic skin care with cleansing, moisturising n sunscreen is more than sufficient in my opinion . It is the extensive lists of serums, vitamins, acids etc that boggles me. It would need proper research and professional consultation on these products before putting them on our skin but the craze associated with all this has resulted in an ignorant consumerism. No doubt, this industry has boosted like anything.

Besides the counter effects this injudicious use of these skin actives cause to the skin barrier , it is the underlying problem that is more concerning.

What this desperate and whacky consumerism reflects is a deep rooted yearning to conform,to be accepted as per the standards of society even if it means to buy into the hollow notions of beauty. The craze with skin care phenomenon is not just aimed for a healthy skin but also self acceptance . Everyone wants to look good, everyone wants to be complimented for a flawless skin. All of which is fine unless it becomes the only way to value one’s worth ,unless it becomes a price tag for one’s self esteem.

It is a fine line we are nudging with in this whole skin care fad . In an attempt to make people feel comfortable in their skin both literally and figuratively, one has to be very careful not to rage an attack on one’s self esteem.

I would rather always stick by Beauty is as beauty does instead of going all berserk about how I look.

What do u think?
